Basketball Recap: Dorchester Picks Up Eighth Straight Win on the Road

Dorchester's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 40-28 victory over the Shelby-Rising City Huskies. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Huskies are ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Shelby-Rising City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Taya Pinneo, who posted 12 points and three steals, and Leah Whitmore, who had five points and seven boards. That was a full 42.9% of Shelby-Rising City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Patience Spitz also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Dorchester's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.1 points per game. As for Shelby-Rising City, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Dorchester has already played their next matchup, a 45-44 victory against Twin River on the 27th. As for Shelby-Rising City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-32 defeat against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on the 25th.
