Soccer Game Preview: Emerson vs. Independence

The Emerson Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the Independence Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Independence will be up against a hot Emerson squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Emerson came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against Heritage. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Mavericks were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Independence has been struggling as of late, and they have yet to win a game this season. They lost 3-0 to Heritage on Friday. The contest was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but the Knights couldn't quite close it out.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Emerson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Emerson beat Independence 2-0 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Emerson since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
