Basketball Recap: Malik Sims' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southport over Terre Haute North Vigo

If Southport was feeling good fresh off their 75-42 takedown of Beech Grove last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Southport Cardinals fell just short of the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots by a score of 58-56 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Patriots are ranked 14th).

Southport's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malik Sims, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chanan Glenn, who had 11 points.

Even though they lost, Southport was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Southport's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Southport will challenge Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they will be playing at home against Bedford North Lawrence at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st.
