Softball Game Preview: Upper Sandusky Rams vs. Genoa Area Comets

The Upper Sandusky Rams will square off against the Genoa Area Comets at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Upper Sandusky has eight straight wins, Genoa Area has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Upper Sandusky made easy work of Bucyrus and carried off a 20-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kenslee Swavel made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Lauren Parker was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Wengerd, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Upper Sandusky kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Genoa Area came up short against Maumee on Friday, falling 14-2.

Izzy West was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Upper Sandusky's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Genoa Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
