Basketball Recap: South Pontotoc Victorious

South Pontotoc proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 44) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the New Albany Bulldogs, sneaking past 52-49. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Bulldogs two weeks ago, they had to take a 66-62 defeat.

When it comes to explaining why New Albany lost, don't look at Issac Gilbert. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Decorion Hardin, who went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points.

South Pontotoc's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for New Albany, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 17-7.

South Pontotoc has already played their next match, a 39-30 victory against Okolona on the 30th. As for New Albany, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 92-89 win against Ingomar on the 30th.
