Baseball Recap: Palmetto Comes Up Short

If Palmetto was feeling good fresh off their 13-6 takedown of Dr. Krop last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Palmetto Panthers fell 12-7 to the Columbus Explorers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Explorers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in February.

Palmetto got a good showing from Gian Carlos Nemer, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Jack Gordon was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Justin Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Palmetto's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Columbus, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Looking ahead, Palmetto will head out to challenge Braddock at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Braddock will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Palmetto surely won't give up without a fight. As for Columbus, they will host Hialeah Educational Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
