After both having extra time off, the Cooper City Cowboys and the Mater Academy Charter Lions will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Cooper City heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Thursday. They came up short against St. Thomas Aquinas, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Cowboys in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.
The match finished with set scores of 25-5, 25-16, 25-15.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter entered their matchup against Everglades on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gators.
Mater Academy Charter was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Everglades work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19.
Cooper City will need to focus on slowing down ANGELINE BENOIT, one of several Mater Academy Charter players who made an impact when they last played. She hit 53.7% for 29 kills and 29 digs and six aces. BENOIT is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 25 games she's played dating back to last season.
Cooper City now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Mater Academy Charter, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 12-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Cooper City has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 12.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Mater Academy Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Cooper City came up short against Mater Academy Charter in their previous matchup back in October of 2017, falling 3-1. Can the Cowboys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
