Basketball Game Preview: Apache Junction Prospectors vs. Florence Gophers

The Apache Junction Prospectors will face off against the Florence Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Apache Junction has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Florence will arrive with 16 straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Apache Junction came up short against Coolidge and fell 47-40. While losing is never fun, the Prospectors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Bears are ranked 66th).

Meanwhile, Florence had just enough and edged Show Low out 83-81 on Thursday.

Florence's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Apache Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Everything came up roses for Apache Junction against Florence when the teams last played back in February of 2016, as the team secured a 70-34 victory. Does Apache Junction have another victory up their sleeve, or will Florence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
