Football Recap: Maryville Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Maryville had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alcoa Tornadoes. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Red Rebels couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Maryville lost, don't look at Will Jones. Despite the final result, he threw for 210 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes.

Alcoa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Thomas Manu led the charge by throwing for 162 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 83 yards on only 11 carries. Another player making a difference was Micah Jones, who rushed for 78 yards and a pair of scores.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maryville will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Alcoa, they will take on Bearden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
