Baseball Recap: South Oak Cliff Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wyatt

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Oak Cliff). They were the clear victor by a 20-5 margin over the Wyatt Chaparrals on Thursday. Considering the Bears have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Anderson Vargas made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on King Hatley, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Carson Texada, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

South Oak Cliff was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

South Oak Cliff's record is now 8-0. As for Wyatt, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, South Oak Cliff will be taking part in a tournament against Trimble Tech at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. South Oak Cliff's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Trimble Tech's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wyatt, they will welcome Molina at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
