Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Victories for Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande had won seven straight home games dating back to last season and Jadyn Martinez did his part to make it eight on Saturday. The Sierra Grande Panthers took their match with ease, bagging a 79-41 win over the Sargent Farmers thanks in part to Martinez, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points.

Another player making a difference was Aron Ojeda, who went 8 of 16 en route to 19 points along with eight boards and three steals. He has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times he's played.

Sargent's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Garcia, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Garcia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Corbin Castillo was another key player, going 5 of 9 to rack up 13 points.

Sierra Grande's record is now 13-2. As for Sargent, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sierra Grande will head out to face off against La Veta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Grande knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully La Veta likes a good challenge. As for Sargent, they are taking a road trip to take on Dolores at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
