Softball Recap: Cumberland Gap Panthers vs. Anderson County Mavericks
Cumberland Gap extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the Anderson County Mavericks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 3rd.
As for Anderson County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games.
For Anderson County's part, not much got past Addison Grooms, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Cumberland Gap off the board. Grooms has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anderson County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Brummit, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Ashton Thurman was another, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
