Softball Recap: Mary G. Montgomery Comes Up Short

If Mary G. Montgomery was feeling good fresh off their 15-3 takedown of Citronelle last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mary G. Montgomery Vikings fell just short of the Baker Hornets by a score of 15-13 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Malena Simonson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gracie Coleman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Kaylee White also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mary G. Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Baker, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7.

Coming up, Mary G. Montgomery will take on Spanish Fort at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Baker, they will head out to face off against St. Paul's Episcopal at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
