Softball Recap: Montgomery Takes a Loss

Montgomery dropped to 11-11 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Piner Prospectors by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since March 24th.

Montgomery saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalee Murray, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

As for Piner, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Piner's side, Cambria Weerts was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Weerts has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Mialynn Membrilla was incredible, firing off two home runs and two stolen bases while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

Coming up, Montgomery will face off against Santa Rosa at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.18 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Piner, they will take on Ukiah at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
