Basketball Recap: Jayden Gonzalez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Severn Run over South River

Severn Run was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 89-67 to the South River Seahawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), Severn Run still had to take the loss.

Several Severn Run players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayden Gonzalez, who posted 13 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Ricco Gough, who made all 5 shots he took to post 11 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Severn Run smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Severn Run's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for South River, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Severn Run will welcome Severna Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Severn Run is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season. As for South River, they will take on Chesapeake on Tuesday. South River knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matchups -- so hopefully Chesapeake likes a good challenge.
