Softball Recap: Elkin Comes Up Short

Elkin entered their match against North Surry on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Elkin Buckin' Elks lost 28-5 to the North Surry Greyhounds. The Buckin' Elks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greyhounds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Lexi Bray was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Lauren Norman, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Elkin and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for North Surry, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Elkin will venture away from home to take on Starmount at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Elkin has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for North Surry, they will square off against Wilkes Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Surry is facing Wilkes Central at the right time seeing as Wilkes Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
