Soccer Game Preview: Proviso West vs. Elgin

The Proviso West Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Elgin Maroons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Proviso West has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Elgin will arrive with eight straight wins.

Proviso West fell victim to Downers Grove North and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Trojans, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Proviso West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Downers Grove North are ranked 119th).

Meanwhile, Elgin kept a clean sheet against Streamwood on Tuesday. They blew past the Sabres 3-0. Considering Elgin have won seven games by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Elgin's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-0-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those six contests. As for Proviso West, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9-1.
