Baseball Recap: Westminster Victorious

While Westminster's victory against Godinez Fundamental wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions won by a run and slipped past the Grizzlies 5-4. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Nathan Bernal made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Westminster's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Damian Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nathan Galeana-Walsh, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Westminster's record now sits at 8-11. As for Godinez Fundamental, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Looking ahead, Westminster is taking a road trip to square off against Crawford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Godinez Fundamental, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Saddleback at 11:00 a.m.
