Softball Recap: Lancaster Catholic Takes a Loss

Lancaster Catholic entered their match against Octorara Area on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Crusaders fell just short of the Braves by a score of 7-6. The Crusaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Kailee Detz put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Angelina Calhoun was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Lancaster Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Octorara Area, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-5.

Coming up, Lancaster Catholic will challenge Lancaster Mennonite at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Blazers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.75 runs per game on average), something the Crusaders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Octorara Area, they will take on Columbia at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
