Basketball Recap: Sumner Academy Comes Up Short

Sumner Academy was the 63-57 winner over Atchison when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sumner Academy Sabres fell 57-44 to the Atchison Phoenix on Friday. The Sabres have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Atchison found their leader in freshman Alondra Herrera, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds. Herrera also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Atchison is 3-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Housh, who posted 12 points and eight boards.

Sumner Academy now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Atchison, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Sumner Academy has already played their next match (against Harmon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Atchison, they have already played their next game, a 37-34 defeat against Wyandotte on the 11th.
