Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Carmi-White County Bulldogs

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Carmi-White County Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Vernon comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Monday, Mt. Vernon came up short against Southridge and fell 28-20. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Raiders are ranked 101st).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kyra Rainey, who posted four points. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. Taylor Ellison was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Carmi-White County made off with a 42-41 win over Fairfield. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Carmi-White County's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-19.

Mt. Vernon suffered a grim 65-41 defeat to Carmi-White County when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Mt. Vernon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
