Basketball Recap: Ryan Sayre Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Weeki Wachee

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Springstead ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 72-66 win over the Weeki Wachee Hornets. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Hornets are ranked 746th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springstead got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryan Sayre out in front who posted 16 points and seven rebounds. Gio Martinez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Springstead was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Weeki Wachee lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Conner Boyle, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Boyle a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Parent, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points and six steals.

Springstead has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for Weeki Wachee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springstead will host Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Braydon Prospero and Zion McKenzie. As for Weeki Wachee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nature Coast Tech at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nature Coast Tech will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Weeki Wachee surely won't give up without a fight.
