Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Sotomayor

Sotomayor had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Math & Science College Preparatory Sharks by a score of 62-52. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 51-49 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sotomayor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryan Hernandez, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Hernandez has posted since back in November of 2023. Jorge Penaloza was another key player, putting up 15 points and five assists.

Sotomayor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Math & Science College Preparatory had strong showings from Adan Martinez, who posted 22 points, and Sidney Scott, who put up 17 points.

The victory got Sotomayor back to even at 5-5. As for Math & Science College Preparatory, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Sotomayor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-43 loss against Garfield on the 19th. As for Math & Science College Preparatory, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-74 defeat against Arleta on the 19th.
