Basketball Game Preview: Chancellor Chargers vs. Massaponax Panthers

The Chancellor Chargers will square off against the Massaponax Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chancellor is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Chancellor is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top against Culpeper County by a score of 64-53 on Tuesday.

Chancellor got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalie Lanning out in front who went 8 for 17 on her way to 24 points along with seven boards and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lanning has scored at least a third of Chancellor's points. Megan Clouser was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Chancellor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Massaponax had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Mountain View with a sharp 33-12 win on Tuesday.

Chancellor is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Massaponax, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.

Chancellor came up short against Massaponax in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 54-44. Thankfully for Chancellor, Takiera Ramey (who went 11 of 16 en route to 27 points in addition to six boards and six steals) won't be suiting up this time.
