Basketball Recap: Laguna Acoma Piles Up the Points Against Dulce

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Laguna Acoma's strategy against Dulce on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Laguna Acoma blew Dulce out of the water with a 70-31 final score. Laguna Acoma has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 20 points or more this season.

Laguna Acoma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Carrillo, who shot 43% from the field en route to 23 points. Those 23 points gave Carrillo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gianna Carrillo, who went 8-for-15 on her way to 21 points.

Dulce lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Maddison Vigil, who posted nine points and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaryonna Vigil, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Laguna Acoma has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 9.77 assists in those games compared to only 3.93 in the others. Dulce's defeat dropped their record down to 10-18.

Looking ahead, Laguna Acoma will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Hozho Academy at 2:00 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Laguna Acoma has won four straight at home, while Hozho Academy won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Dulce does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
