Softball Recap: Chalker Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Chalker entered their tilt with Leetonia on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Bears 17-1. Considering the Wildcats have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Tatum Hudak and Riley Ashcraft were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hudak struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Ashcraft pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hudak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Hudak went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Ashcraft got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Grimm, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Cook, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Chalker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

Chalker's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Leetonia, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.

Coming up, Chalker will challenge Badger at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. Leetonia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
