Baseball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

The Lincoln Mustangs came up short against the San Lorenzo Valley Cougars on Saturday and fell 11-8.

Aidan Castaneda was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lincoln: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nicholas Chiu made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jerry Hou, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for San Lorenzo Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-15.

Coming up, Lincoln will face off against Washington at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for San Lorenzo Valley, they will square off against Soquel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
