Basketball Recap: Sherman Comes Up Short

Sherman was the 68-58 winner over Melissa when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sherman Bearcats came up short against the Melissa Cardinals on Friday, falling 80-58. While losing is never fun, the Bearcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 479th, while the Cardinals are ranked 118th).

Sherman has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season. As for Melissa, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-11.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Sherman Bearcats face off against the Greenville Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sherman is facing Greenville at the right time seeing as Greenville is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Melissa has already played their next matchup (against Anna), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
