Softball Recap: Dupo Takes a Loss

Dupo had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-7 to make it five. They came up short against the Gillespie Miners, falling 19-5. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 20-4 to the Miners when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kylie Kloess was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Adrienne Latimer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Gillespie, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

On Gillespie's side, Paxton Reid made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Reid has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Laci Schuckenbrock was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Sholtis, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Dupo has already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Steeleville on the 17th. As for Gillespie, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 win against O'Fallon on the 17th.
