Basketball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Academy LIONS vs. Greenwood Mennonite Flames

Calvary Christian Academy is 1-9 against Greenwood Mennonite since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Calvary Christian Academy LIONS will head out to face off against the Greenwood Mennonite Flames at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Calvary Christian Academy sitting on seven straight victories and Greenwood Mennonite on five.

Calvary Christian Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Aquinas Academy to the tune of 62-22 on Tuesday. Given the LIONS's advantage in MaxPreps' Delaware basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Crusaders are ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Audrey Hensley had a dynamite game for Calvary Christian Academy, going 10 of 15 on her way to 20 points. Kate Malinky (HS) was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven assists.

Calvary Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Greenwood Mennonite didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Holly Grove Christian on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 38-34 win. The 38-point effort marked the Flames' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Greenwood Mennonite's win came from a few key players Calvary Christian Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Olivia Smoker, who posted five points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carli Welfley, who had eight points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.

Calvary Christian Academy pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.6 points per game. As for Greenwood Mennonite, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Calvary Christian Academy beat Greenwood Mennonite 53-46 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calvary Christian Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
