Effingham had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-4 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Marshall Lions with a sharp 13-1 win. With that victory, the Hearts brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Saige Althoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Althoff was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Jerzi Bierman was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Martin, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

Effingham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marshall only posted an OBP of .375.

Having lost for the first time this season, Marshall fell to 7-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.

On Marshall's side, Lauren English was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

Effingham wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-3 win against Mahomet-Seymour on the 12th. As for Marshall, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 21-3 victory against Northview on the 11th.
