Balboa took a 28-point defeat the last time they faced off against Westmoor, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Buccaneers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rams on Friday, sneaking past 48-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buccaneers have posted since January 13th.

Balboa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alan Ly out in front who went 7-for-15 to rack up 19 points along with five boards and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ly has scored at least a third of the Buccaneers' points. Another player making a difference was Lorenzo Manna, who posted six points in addition to 11 rebounds and four steals.

Westmoor's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Payne, who shot 86% from the field on his way to 12 points and seven boards. Kevin Panlasigui was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 10 points and four steals.

Balboa now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Westmoor, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Balboa will square off against The Bay School at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westmoor, they have already played their next game, a 55-41 victory against Emerald on the 2nd.
