Softball Game Preview: Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes vs. Robertson Cardinals

Pojoaque Valley hasn't had much luck against Robertson recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Pojoaque Valley will head out to challenge Robertson at 3:00 p.m. Pojoaque Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Robertson will be coming in after a loss.

Pojoaque Valley will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against East Mountain on Saturday. Pojoaque Valley put the hurt on East Mountain with a sharp 19-4 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Elks/Elkettes as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Makaela Mondragon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Mondragon was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Izabella Lujan was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Aubry Rodriguez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Robertson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Goddard, falling 7-1.

Jayden Ortega made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

Pojoaque Valley's record is now 3-8. As for Robertson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Pojoaque Valley might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Robertson in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Pojoaque Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
