Recap: Green Valley Gators vs. Canyon Springs Pioneers
This season hasn't been kind to the Green Valley Gators, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They took a serious blow against Canyon Springs on Saturday, falling 61-26. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Green Valley in their matchups with Canyon Springs: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Green Valley still got an impressive performance from Kyra Willey, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds. Willey scored a full 34.6% of Green Valley's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Green Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Springs only pulled down 24.
Leading Canyon Springs to victory were Kenijae Cherry and Ariyanah Custard. Cherry scored 7 points along with 14 rebounds and 4 steals, while Custard scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Custard has scored at least 25% of Canyon Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Hikiya Biggs, who scored 8 points.
Green Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Canyon Springs, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Green Valley is on the road again on Friday and play against Cimarron-Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on December 1st. As for Canyon Springs, they will be playing at home against Cheyenne at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
