Baseball Recap: Mapleton Comes Up Short

Mapleton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-15. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Central Trojans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 3, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Bentley Workman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Gabe Wrobleski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for South Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-7-1. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On South Central's side, Weston June made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. June also tossed no walks, which is notable because South Central is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-7-1 otherwise. June was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Troy Ayers and Greyson Fisher did most of the damage at the plate: Ayers got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Fisher went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Fisher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Hamons, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

While Mapleton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
