Baseball Game Preview: Weld Central Rebels vs. Liberty Common Eagles

Weld Central is 0-4 against Liberty Common since May of 2022 but things could change on Saturday. The Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Weld Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

Weld Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Brush on Thursday. The Rebels blew past the Beetdiggers 23-8. Considering the Rebels have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Pierce Thoene was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Landon Feist was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Weld Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Liberty Common fell victim to Resurrection Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Liberty Common's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Weld Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weld Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Liberty Common struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
