Softball Recap: Donovan's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Donovan fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Gardner-South Wilmington on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Laylah Lou Walters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bailey Henneike was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Donovan's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Donovan will host Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Dwight at 4:30 p.m.
