Softball Game Preview: Hathaway Hornets vs. Singer Hornets

Hathaway will face off against Singer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hathaway's hitters haven't had much luck over their past six contests, but Friday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Monday, Hathaway and Basile finished up their game with a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Singer got the win against Johnson Bayou on Thursday by a conclusive 16-1. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won three in a row.

Jada Eaves was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Hanna Johnson was a standout: she scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Breeanna Mitchell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Singer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Hathaway's tie makes their record 0-6-1 this season. As for Singer, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.

Hathaway might still be hurting after the 22-2 loss they got from Singer in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Hathaway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
