Baseball Recap: California Lutheran Takes a Loss

If California Lutheran was feeling good fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Sherman Indian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The C-Hawks took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the United Christian Academy Eagles on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Ethan Ash was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Ash wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Lai, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Lai hit this season.

California Lutheran's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-5. As for United Christian Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. California Lutheran will square off against Hamilton at 2:15 p.m. on Monday. As for United Christian Academy, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bethel Christian at 2:30 p.m. on the 23rd.
