Baseball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside lost against Columbia back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Southside Seahawks fell just short of the Columbia Wildcats by a score of 11-9. That's two games in a row now that the Seahawks have lost by exactly two runs.

Austin Gerard put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Taylor Ashley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Lewis, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Southside now has a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Southside will be playing at home against Greene Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbia, they will venture away from home to take on Southside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
