Softball Recap: Helena Gets the Win

Helena won against Pelham last Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Huskies walked away with a 7-4 win over the Calera Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-1 back in February.

Carrington Schiefer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatum Cooper, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

Helena is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Calera, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Helena wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-0 win against Mortimer Jordan on the 4th. As for Calera, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-5 defeat against Elmore County on the 4th.
