Shawnee suffered their closest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Villa Grove Blue Devils by a score of 19-17. Even though they lost, the Redskins' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Eliza Ford led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Avery Stegle also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Shawnee is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 4.5 runs. As for Villa Grove, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Shawnee will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Jays will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Redskins surely won't give up without a fight. As for Villa Grove, they will venture away from home to take on Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Redskins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.75 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
