Kiowa hasn't had much luck against Simla recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Indians will look to defend their home field against the Cubs at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Kiowa will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Elbert, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Indians put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 13-2 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, Simla gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Custer County as they made off with a 15-5 victory.
Ethan Kissam made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kissam was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Simla's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Logan Rayfield was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Simla: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ty Stanko, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Simla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kiowa has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Simla, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
