Not much got past Madelyn Lasater, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Old Plank Christian Academy off the board. With that strong performance, Lasater is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arianna Menendez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).
Meanwhile, Union County made easy work of Bronson on Friday and carried off a 10-3 win. The Fightin' Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Emma Handley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Handley was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Leanne Dicks was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played. Courtney Manning was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Union County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 12 consecutive games.
Trinity Christian Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Union County, their record now sits at 13-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Trinity Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Union County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Trinity Christian Academy took their victory against Union County when the teams last played back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Conquerors repeat their success, or do the Fightin' Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
