Basketball Game Preview: Bruton Panthers vs. New Kent Trojans

The Bruton Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the New Kent Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Bruton sitting on eight straight victories and New Kent on 16.

Bruton will bounce into Friday's game after beating Grafton, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Bruton secured a 66-62 W over Grafton on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, New Kent strolled past Tabb with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 88-72. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Tigers are ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Kent pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Bruton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

Bruton couldn't quite finish off New Kent in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 and fell 63-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of New Kent's Kyle Diggs, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. Now that Bruton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
