Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Falls Short of Pendleton Heights in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Mt. Vernon couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They had to suffer through a 59-21 loss at the hands of the Pendleton Heights Arabians. The matchup marked the Marauders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mt. Vernon's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Gabby Thomas and Alaya Baxter. Thomas went 6 for 8 on her way to 14 points and four steals, while Baxter posted three points. What's more, Thomas also posted a 75% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024.

Pendleton Heights got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaycie Warfel out in front who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc to rack up 26 points and five steals. Warfel is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 35 games she's played dating back to last season. Olivia Jones was another key player, going 5 for 7 en route to 11 points along with seven assists and seven steals.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Pendleton Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
