Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Temecula Valley's Third in Last Four Outings

Temecula Valley won the last time they faced Murrieta Mesa, and Jeremiah Profit did his part to make sure it happened again. The Temecula Valley Golden Bears put the hurt on the Murrieta Mesa Rams with a sharp 87-67 victory on Friday thanks to Profit, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 37 points and ten boards. He has become a key player for Temecula Valley: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least eight rebounds, but 8-10 otherwise.

The team also got some help courtesy of Taj Jackson, who posted 12 points along with six steals and five assists. Those six steals gave him a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Murrieta Mesa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ray Riley went 7-for-14 to rack up 17 points. Riley continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Josiah Giron also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Temecula Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 87.3 points over those games. As for Murrieta Mesa, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-18.
