Preview: Omaha Central Eagles vs. Millard North Mustangs
Omaha Central and Millard North are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The Omaha Central Eagles are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Millard North Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on December 30th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Omaha Central made easy work of Omaha North and carried off a 59-39 win.
It was another big night for Devin Holmon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. He set a new season high mark in blocks with four. The team also got some help courtesy of DaShawn Prince, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Gretna East scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, Millard North still came out on top. Millard North put the hurt on Gretna East with a sharp 82-56 victory. Millard North's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Millard North's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Gaeth, who scored 21 points along with six assists. Another player making a difference was Derek Rollins, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Omaha Central's record is now 6-1. Millard North's record now sits at 7-0.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Omaha Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Millard North, though, as they've been averaging only 33.7 rebounds per game. Given Omaha Central's sizeable advantage in that area, Millard North will need to find a way to close that gap.
Omaha Central came up short against Millard North in their previous matchup back in January, falling 58-52. Can Omaha Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
