Football Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Kenston Bombers

The Mayfield Wildcats will face off against the Kenston Bombers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mayfield took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 28-21 win over Chardon.

Meanwhile, after only 11 points in their last game, Kenston made sure to put some points up on the board against Riverside on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Bombers made off with a 32-31 victory over the Beavers. The win almost wasn't to be: the Bombers were down 31-17 in the third quarter.

Mayfield better keep an eye on Adam Barr. He was instrumental in Kenston's win, throwing for 178 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes. Barr's passing game has become a key predictor of the Bombers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

Mayfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.3 points over those games. As for Kenston, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Things could have been worse for Mayfield, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 21-3 loss to Kenston when the teams last played back in October of 2024.
