Football Recap: King's Academy Piles Up the Points Against Mountain View

King's Academy came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Mountain View Spartans for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-16 win. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Spartans are ranked 615th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

King's Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ricky Gutierrez, who threw for 189 yards and three TDs on only 18 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Gutierrez has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Drew Martinez helped Gutierrez out on the ground, rushing for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries.

King's Academy's run defense was locked in: Mountain View could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Josh Lee for the heroic effort on defense: he. King's Academy didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.9.

Special teams played a big role in the game for King's Academy, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Aaron Duncan, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Mountain View's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ishan Devarapalli, who threw for 160 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 37 yards.

King's Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mountain View, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6.
